Purpose:The Senior Manager of Retail Accounting leads the monthly close process for the retail business, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance, and serves as the key liaison with external auditors. This role partners closely with the Director of Retail Accounting in maintaining the oversight and integrity of retail accounting systems.
Essential Functions:
- Leads monthly retail accounting close process including revenue recognition, costs of goods sold, inventory accounting, and P&L analysis across retail locations
- Prepares primary financials used by Management and Operations during period close; prepares monthly financial statement reports distributed to JV Partners.
- Serves as primary liaison with Deloitte for retail accounting audit activities and prepares audit support documentation
- Supports Director with General Ledger maintenance
- Troubleshoots issues arising from system interfaces to the General Ledger and provides ongoing recommendations for continued system process improvements and reporting enhancements
- Performs and reviews balance sheet reconciliations for retail-related accounts, investigating variances and issues as necessary
- Prepares monthly reconciliation of Local, CFIN and Group Reporting financial statements for key internal control compliance
- Oversees documentation over key accounting processes
- Runs periodic financial reports daily during month end close; has ownership of certain balance sheet accounts
- Prepares various schedules for financial reporting and auditing; serves as an interface with external audit teams during internal control and financial statement audits
- Participates in special projects related to the general ledger and other related systems and reporting mechanisms. Assist with testing of new systems and upgrades
- Collaborates with Shared Services team in Netherland and India on accounts payable, vendor management, and transactional accounting support
- Partners with global Group Reporting team to respond to any open queries
Reporting Relationship:The Senior Manager of Retail Accounting reports to the Director of Retail Accounting
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
- Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 6 years:
- In a technical role: Requires 6 years of experience engaged in delivering accounting programs
- A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the 6-year requirement
- In the industry: 3-5 years of hospitality, F&B and/or retail experience
- CPA or progressive work towards CPA preferred
- Specialized Training:
- Training that leads to understanding of GAAP
- Knowledge of state and federal tax regulations and statutes
- Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SAP; General Ledger experience a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Exceptional customer service skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of accounting to advance the organization’s goals
- Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population, and individual circumstances
- Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments
- Location: This position is based at the North America Support Center in Bethesda, MD
