Purpose

The Operations Controller is responsible for managing cost controls, budgeting and forecasting processes, financial analysis and reporting, and accounting procedures for a single branch or region with multiple locations ranging from small to large sales volume operations.

Essential Functions

  • Manages the preparation and transmission of branch accounting information such as sales and profit figures, payroll data, accruals, transfers, and inventories
  • Oversees maintenance of internal accounting records and is responsible for preparing timely area management and corporate/regional reports directly manages activities of their accounting staff
  • Implements company defined financial metrics throughout their area of responsibility
  • Maintains the appropriate control environment within their area of responsibility ensuring compliance with all corporate accounting standards within the region and provides necessary training to branch management in accounting standards and corporate policies and procedures
  • Manages budget, forecast, and accounting processes for the region including review and validation; makes appropriate recommendations and implements appropriate solutions
  • Provides fact-based input into development projects by working with field management in accurately evaluating financial risks and returns of potentially new business opportunities
  • Provides accurate fact-based analysis for ad hoc reporting as requested by the Senior Manager
  • Prepares reports and presentations, including developing financial bridges for the Business Controller review

Reporting Relationship and Other Important Information

  • The Operations Controller position as described falls under the Fair Labor Standards Act as an Exempt position.
  • This position typically reports to the Business Controller.
  • The Operations Controller requires occasional travel, up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment

Education and Experience

The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 6 years

  • In a leadership role: Requires 2 years of experience supervising a team of professionals engaged in executing accounting/financial analysis programs
  • In a technical role: Requires 6 years of experience engaged in developing and delivering reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial modeling programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 2 of the 6-year requirement
  • An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional 2 years of 6-year requirement
  • In the industry: Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience 3-5 years

Specialized Training

  • Training that leads to an advanced working knowledge of Excel, including financial modeling skills
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and statutes

Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits

  • Requires ability to build strong relationships and function well in a heavily matrixed organizational environment, as well as develop strong relationships with external partners including Joint Ventures, sub-tenants, landlords and vendors
  • Prior experience in reading and interpreting contractual agreements a plus
  • Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of financial planning and to advance the organizations goals
  • Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances
  • Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams to achieve common goals

Location/Travel

  • This position requires regular attendance at assigned airport.
  • Requires up to 20% travel
