Purpose
The purpose of the Benefits Manager, Union Plans position is to coordinate daily benefit processes and activities to ensure that plans, policies, and procedures are administered correctly for Union Health & Welfare and Retirement benefit programs in North America.

Essential Functions
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with union benefit vendors. Serves as primary point of contact and ensures that any issues and questions are handled efficiently and accurately per regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Serves as primary point of contact for field Human Resources and Operations staff on union benefit plan eligibility questions and other issues.
- Spearheads change management for locations transitioning to union benefits.
- Implements automation and continuously manages weekly/monthly eligibility files and deduction files for union benefit plans.
- Consults and collaborates with the Labor Relations, Payroll, and HRIS teams as it relates to the administration of union benefits, including coordinating system changes, updates, deduction management, and testing between various systems and vendors; coordinates audits for union sponsored benefit plans
- Provides assistance on financial administration of benefit plans in collaboration with Payroll (funding, journal entries, participant direct payments, etc.)
- Performs compliance tasks required by ERISA, IRS, and DOL, including coordinating all aspects of the reporting requirements for the Affordable Care Act.
- Participates in benefits events at the Operations Support Center (OSC), such as benefits orientation, Annual Benefits Fair, and wellness activities; collaborates with Benefits team members.

Reporting relationships and other important information
- Benefits Manager, Union Plans position as described falls under the Fair Labor Standards Act as an Exempt position.
- This position reports to the Senior Director, Benefits.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment
- Requires business knowledge and acumen typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, Law, or a related field and at least five years of experience
- Requires specific experience administering multi-employer benefits plans and collective bargaining agreements, ACA experience is strongly preferred
- Requires demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and often conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Requires excellent interpersonal, customer service and advocacy skills, and the ability to positively interact with people who speak different languages and come from various socio-economic backgrounds
- Must possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data effectively and efficiently
- Requires excellent business judgment with the ability to communicate persuasively at all levels of management; strong writing, editing and verbal skills are essential
- Requires proficiency in office software and applications, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
